Obama and "Moochers"

A few days ago at a conference on poverty Obama suggested some of his opponents read Ayn Rand and decide everyone is a moocher or parasite. While neither Rand nor any other serious thinker really needs defending from attacks by a person such as Obama, there are a couple of observations that might be useful, though of course obvious to anyone who read her works and paid attention. First she repeatedly expresses explicit respect for anyone who lives and works honestly and fairly, irrespective of income or abilities.  Also the objects of her strongest political scorn are not poor people on welfare. They are the power mad politicians and bureaucrats and the contemptible rich  who became  wealthy not by productive activity but through political pull and chicanery, which is to say people  like Obama in the first instance and the Clintons in the second. She saw through and helped others to see through the Obamas of the world years before he was born. One can see how he might find that annoying.
